Privacy Policy

Last updated: 23 October 2026

This privacy policy explains what personal information Handmade Gifts collects when you use handmadegifts.org.uk, why we collect it, and your rights. We have written it to follow the Information Commissioner's Office guidance on the right to be informed under UK data protection law (ICO).

Who we are

Handmade Gifts (handmadegifts.org.uk) is the controller of the personal information described in this policy. You can contact us about privacy at any time through our contact page.

Information we collect

When you contact us. If you use our contact form, we receive the name, email address and message you enter. We use this only to reply to you. Our form uses a simple image check to block spam rather than a third-party tracking service.

When you browse the site. Like most websites, our hosting provider records basic technical information in server logs, such as your IP address, browser type, the pages you request and the time of your visit. This helps us keep the site secure and working properly.

Cookies. We use a small number of cookies, explained below. We do not use advertising trackers or sell your information to anyone.

We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Cookies

  • Necessary cookies. Our cookie banner stores your choice so that it does not ask you again on every page, and WooCommerce, which runs parts of the site, may set cookies needed for site functions to work. These do not track you across other sites.
  • Affiliate partners. When you click a product link and visit a shop such as Amazon, eBay or a shop in the Awin or Webgains networks, that shop or network may set its own cookies to record that you came from us. These cookies are controlled by them, under their own privacy policies.

You can change your cookie choices at any time using the cookie settings link on the site, and you can delete cookies through your browser settings.

Why we use your information

UK data protection law requires a lawful basis for using personal information.

  • Replying to messages: our legitimate interest in answering questions and feedback.
  • Server logs and security: our legitimate interest in keeping the site secure and running.
  • Non-essential cookies: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
  • Legal requirements: our legal obligation, where the law requires us to keep or share information.

Who we share it with

We share information only where needed to run the site: with our hosting and email providers, who process it on our behalf. When you follow a link to a shop, you leave our site and the shop's own privacy policy applies. We will also share information if the law requires it.

Some of our service providers or partner shops may process data outside the UK. Where that happens, they are responsible for using appropriate safeguards required by UK law.

How long we keep it

We keep contact form messages only for as long as we need them to deal with your enquiry, and no longer than 12 months. Server logs are kept by our host for a limited period for security purposes and then deleted.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

  • ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you
  • ask us to correct information that is wrong
  • ask us to delete your information
  • object to, or ask us to restrict, how we use it
  • withdraw consent at any time where we rely on it

To use any of these rights, please contact us through our contact page. We will reply within one month. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time, for example if we add a new feature or partner. The date at the top of this page shows when it last changed. You can also read our affiliate disclosure and about page.
